Space / DAY 25 OF 40
The universe has a very quiet neighbourhood.
Meet the Boötes Void: a vast region with surprisingly few galaxies.
Here's the strange part.
The Boötes Void is a cosmic neighbourhood with a remarkable amount of breathing room. Spanning roughly 300 million light-years, it contains far fewer galaxies than astronomers would expect in a typical volume that size. That makes it underdense, not empty. Think unusually sparse map, not a hole someone punched through reality. (Astronomy Magazine)
A cosmic void is underdense, not literally empty space or a hole torn in the universe. Galaxy counts depend on the survey.
