Your body / DAY 09 OF 40
Your space suit needs growing room.
Astronauts can temporarily gain height in weightlessness.
Here's the strange part.
Space can give astronauts a temporary height bonus. NASA reports an average increase of about three per cent during the first few days of weightlessness, largely linked to changes in the spinal column. The amount varies, and height generally returns towards its preflight value after landing. It is an interesting adaptation, not a permanent growth hack. (NASA)
The change varies by astronaut and generally reverses after returning to Earth. It is not permanent growth.
