More colour receptors. Not a better colour chart.
Mantis shrimp vision is stranger than the internet version.
Here's the strange part.
More sensors do not automatically mean a better picture. One tested mantis shrimp species has twelve types of colour photoreceptors, yet struggled to distinguish some nearby wavelengths. Researchers proposed that it handles colour differently from humans, rather than simply doing our version twelve times better. The shrimp is strange enough without giving it imaginary superpowers. (Nature News)
The reported discrimination tests involved one species and specific tasks. They do not rank every aspect of shrimp vision against human vision.
