VSL INFO MODE · 0.3.0 PREVIEW

Privacy & permissions

VSL works on content you choose. This preview has no accounts, advertising, analytics, or background screen monitoring.

Your content

Text, images and extracted words remain in app memory. Screenshot recognition runs locally using bundled English OCR data. Desktop captures happen only after you choose the screen-region command. Closing the app clears the content. This does not prevent the operating system from managing memory or crash data.

Online facts

The mobile and desktop app ask before a lookup unless you enable future lookups in Settings. Only your selected word or phrase is sent to Wikipedia; screenshots are not sent. Source providers receive your IP address and request. Search with Perplexity opens a new page containing your chosen query and is covered by that provider's policies. Do not send secrets, medical details or other sensitive text.

Comet extension

The browser extension operates differently: after you enable it on a tab, hovered subjects are automatically looked up. Surrounding words are scored locally to choose matches. Ask AI sends the selected subject and a short excerpt to Perplexity only on request, using your own API key. The key is stored locally in extension storage. Do not enable the extension on sensitive pages.

Native permissions

The desktop app uses screen capture for a region you select and clipboard access only when you explicitly choose Paste clipboard. The Android preview receives text through Share or Process text, and uses a file picker for images. It does not request accessibility-service, screen-overlay, microphone, location, or background clipboard permissions.

Settings and deletion

Android and desktop settings retain theme, hold delay, language and lookup consent; desktop also retains window and dock placement. Use Reset to clear the workspace. Remove the app's local data or uninstall it to clear these settings. The web and first iOS previews keep settings in memory only.

Release status

This is a development preview, not an App Store or Google Play release. A legal publisher identity, support contact, permanent privacy URL, signed releases, device tests, store disclosures, and review are required before public distribution.

Platform boundaries

A custom iOS keyboard cannot select content in the host app or draw over other apps. VSL's hold-space gesture works within its own reader. Android cross-app accessibility features would require a separate consent and policy-reviewed implementation, not just this app wrapper.
